TCP, Inc. and IHG Launch Environmental Initiatives at Hotels Nationwide; Goal is to Lower Energy Costs and Reduce Carbon Dioxide Emissions
AURORA, OH – (November 6, 2007) – TCP, Inc., lighting innovator and manufacturer of the most energy efficient compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) in the industry, recently teamed up with InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) to launch an environmental initiative to replace over 250,000 incandescent light bulbs with CFLs in guest rooms at over 200 company-managed hotels. The relamping project resulted in an annual reduction of almost 50 million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions, which is the equivalent of removing over 17,000 cars from American highways.
The partnership was a part of IHG’s “Chase The Extraordinary” road tour, during which IHG executives visited company-managed hotels in more than 30 states and 12 countries to rally employees around 2007 initiatives, of which the light bulb changeover was the lead effort. In addition, TCP donated 15,000 CFLs to employees of IHG’s properties for use in their homes so that they had the opportunity to adopt the same practice being implemented at the hotels.
“Working with IHG, we were able to educate their guests and employees on the energy savings, and environmental benefits, associated with using CFLs,” said Clay Rosser, National Accounts Manager, TCP, Inc. “By making the switch with just one light bulb, we will produce results that benefit us all.”
TCP’s energy-efficient CFLs have an average life of 10,000 hours, which can last six to ten times longer than standard incandescent light bulbs. TCP’s products also use two-thirds less energy, leading to increased energy savings and lower utility costs. From a cost perspective, the typical savings per CFL is at least $30 over its lifetime.
“TCP has been outstanding to work with on this initiative,” said Tom Murray, chief operating officer, the Americas, IHG. “Replacing the incandescent light bulbs in hotels with energy-efficient longer-lasting CFLs has been an important step in doing our part to respect and improve our environment."
Though only a fraction the size of its competitors, TCP manufactures more than one million energy efficient compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) every day and is responsible for 70 percent of the CFLs on the U.S. market sold under a variety of name brand, private label and other lighting manufacturers (OLMs), including n:vision at The Home Depot and Great Value at Walmart.
TCP, Inc., headquartered in Aurora, Ohio, drives lighting innovation for commercial, industrial and residential applications. As the leader in energy efficient lighting, TCP manufactures one million compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) per day, offers one of the largest number of ENERGY STAR approved products and distributes them throughout North America and abroad.
