Timothy Chen, Senior Vice President of Global Research and Development
Hired by TCP in 2009, Mr. Chen brings more than 23 years of experience in lighting electronics and systems with a successful track record at GE, including leading a large global product design and development team in creating lighting products from concept to production. He currently holds 30 U.S. patents, and is listed as first inventor on 26, with additional patents pending and in process.
The products Mr. Chen has created or led the development of have covered the entire spectrum of lighting products and have won numerous industry awards over the past ten years. Mr. Chen is the inventor of the Industry’s most popular and successful parallel lamp program start ballast (UltraStart) which is still the gold standard years after its launch. He led GE Lighting in product award winnings over the same period. These awards include Ted Magazine’s 2000 Lighting Product of the Year (including first place for Best Energy Efficient Product and first place for Most Sales Potential for the distribution market), Design Journal Magazine’s Platinum Award for Design Excellence, the ADEX award for dimmable reflector CFLs and Building Magazine’s Top Product Picks. Further, Mr. Chen was nominated for the 2008 GE Edison Award.
Since joining TCP in January 2009, Mr. Chen has led TCP’s Global Research and Development team and has successfully launched a series of exclusive TCP CFL and LED products in the North American market including:
- Industry’s new benchmark CFL product families: TCP Pro, TruDim™ and TruStart™ (InstaBright II). The Trudim was recognized by IES as a unique and significant advancement to the art and science of lighting
- Industry’s new benchmark highly-efficient, stable and best dimming capabilities: Deco LED, Par and A19 LED series
