TCP, Inc. Debuts “Bright Town” Education Program for Elementary Students
Interactive program teaches children about energy conservation and the environment
Long Island City, NY – (October 3, 2007) – In celebration of ENERGY STAR’s national “Change a Light, Change the World” Day, TCP, Inc., the world’s largest manufacturer of energy efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs), launched “Bright Town”, a national education campaign it designed to teach children the environmental benefits of using energy efficient lighting and other simple steps they can take to help stop climate change. The program, aimed at kids in kindergarten through fourth grade, kicked off today at P.S. 17 Henry David Thoreau Elementary School in Long Island City, New York, where more than 700 students and faculty participated in the assembly program.
“The children of our country may be the generation most impacted by the effects of global warming,” said Ellis Yan, CEO, TCP, Inc. “Through continued education programs, such as Bright Town, we are committed to igniting ideas in the minds of the youth on possible solutions to the issue, including how saving energy can go a long way in helping reduce harmful carbon emissions.”
The Bright Town assembly program is a multi-media production, including a 3D cartoon, interactive costumed characters, customized music and much more. The cartoon, “The Search for Inky”, starring TC, an animated CFL and his sidekick, Watts-On, takes students through an educational journey on what could potentially happen to the earth if energy use isn’t reduced. TC and Watts-on come to the rescue when characters Josh and Amanda find the culprit is Inky Incandescent. Together, they work to stop Inky from draining all the energy out of their town.
TCP’s education program also includes a CFL and LED fundraising component and a series of grade-specific curriculum units that use lively characters, exciting stories, and hands-on activities to teach students about energy and how to use it wisely.
